Pre-Renovation Treatment

spraying a lawn

Professional Preparation for a Successful Lawn Renovation

Our Pre-Renovation Treatment is an optional preparatory stage designed to ensure your lawn renovation delivers the strongest possible long-term results.

It is typically carried out 3 to 6 weeks before your main scarification, aeration and overseeding visit. This timing allows unwanted grasses, weeds or moss to fully die back before renovation work begins.

We only recommend this step where it is genuinely beneficial, and it is always discussed and agreed with you in advance.

Why Preparation Matters

A high-quality lawn renovation depends on creating the right foundation for new grass to establish.

Some lawns contain:

  • Coarse grass species such as Yorkshire fog
  • Patchy clumps of undesirable pasture grasses
  • Persistent perennial weeds
  • Areas of widespread moss
  • Dense thatch restricting healthy growth

If these are left untreated, they compete with new seed and limit the effectiveness of overseeding. In these cases, careful preparation significantly improves the final outcome.

Our Pre-Renovation Treatment carefully controls and suppresses unwanted grasses, weeds and moss using professional, lawn-safe products. These areas are allowed to die back safely and are then removed during the scarification stage of renovation. This creates the space, light and nutrient access needed for new grass to establish evenly and successfully.

What the Treatment Involves

Depending on your lawn’s condition, we may recommend:

Targeted treatment of specific problem areas
or
A broader application where issues are more widespread

The objective is not to take drastic action unnecessarily, but to ensure your renovation investment is built on a clean, properly prepared base.

When Lawns Are in Poor Condition

Occasionally, a lawn may be in very poor overall condition, with heavy weed infestation, widespread moss, dense thatch and significant amounts of undesirable grass species.

In these situations, more decisive preparation may be required before renovation can proceed successfully. If this applies to your lawn, we will explain the options clearly and outline what will deliver the best long-term outcome.

What to Expect After Treatment

Following application, treated areas will gradually die back over the following weeks.

During this period, the lawn may temporarily look worse before it improves. This is entirely expected and forms part of the staged renovation process.

At your scheduled renovation visit, we will:

  • Scarify to remove dead organic matter and surface debris
  • Aerate to relieve compaction and improve soil health
  • Overseed with carefully selected grass varieties

This structured approach allows the lawn to recover stronger, denser and more uniform than before.
